stunning and awe-inspiring moment
This image captures a stunning and awe-inspiring moment as a line of climbers climb a snow-capped peak under the dark of night with lights. The scene could be the heights of Mount Everest or K-2, where harsh weather, icy winds and deadly routes await the climbers. This line of headlamps shining at night is a testament to the determination and courage of man, who, despite facing nature’s greatest challenges, is moving towards their destination.
K-2 – The World’s Second Highest Peak
K-2 is the world’s second highest peak, standing at 8,611 metres (28,251 ft). It is located in the Karakoram range of the Himalayas on the border of Pakistan and China.
K-2 is also known as the “Savage Mountain” because it is one of the most dangerous peaks in the world. The success rate of its ascent is very low, and many climbers have lost their lives. Its difficult climb, harsh weather, avalanches, and steep cliffs make it even more dangerous than Mount Everest.
K-2 was discovered in 1856 by British surveyor Thomas Montgomery and named “K2” because it was the second highest peak in the Karakoram. It was first successfully climbed in 1954 by Italian climbers Achille Companoni and Lino Lachidelli.
The peak attracts expert climbers from around the world every year, but only a few people manage to reach its summit.
