The Monkey and The Trader
A stranger came to a village and announced that he would buy a monkey from the villagers for 10 rupees. There were a lot of monkeys around this village, the villagers were very happy, they started catching monkeys. This man bought 1000 monkeys for 10 rupees, now the number of monkeys in the village had decreased considerably, there were a few monkeys left which were difficult to catch.
At that time the merchant announced that now he would buy monkeys for 20 rupees, this created a new spirit in the villagers and once again they started catching monkeys with full force. A few days later, monkeys appeared one by one and about 1300 monkeys had gathered in a large cage of this newly arrived merchant.
When the merchant saw the slowness in the purchase of monkeys, he first set the price per monkey at 25 rupees and then the next day increased the price to 50 rupees. For this price, he bought only 9 monkeys. Now, any monkey that came under human gaze would be imprisoned. After that, he went to a distant city for work and his assistant started taking over the work.
In his absence, his assistant gathered the villagers and said: “Brothers! There are about 1450 animals in this big cage that the teacher has collected. I will sell all of them to you at the rate of 35 rupees per monkey.
When the teacher comes, you sell him these monkeys for 50 rupees.” The villagers were very happy and spent all their savings and bought the monkeys. After that, they did not see the merchant or his assistant anywhere, there were just monkeys everywhere.
